headshotkewKevin Eugene Kew, 61, of Charleston, South Carolina passed away the morning of March 22nd in his home surrounded by his beloved wife and children. Kevin was diagnosed with ALS in 2014 and bravely battled the disease until his passing.

Kevin was born in Mason City, Iowa to the late Kenneth and Dolores Kew on November 27, 1954. He attended the University of Iowa and graduated with a degree in Information Systems. Kevin entered the emerging fields of technology and software, which would send him to live and work across the country and the globe. Kevin met Chellie Blake in Chicago, Illinois and they married on August 9, 1986 at Saint Barnabas Church in North Hatley, Quebec, Canada.

Kevin’s career in technology included working for Sequent Computer Systems, Genesys Telecom, Nuance Communications and OpenMethods.  In his later career Kevin worked in the philanthropic field and was Executive Director of the Q Fund, founded by his wife Chellie. They worked together to build and maintain the Chimoza Community School in Ndola, Zambia. The school serves orphaned and vulnerable students in grades Pre-K through nine.

Kevin will be greatly missed by his friends, colleagues, and family; he is survived by his wife Chellie Blake Kew of Charleston, South Carolina; by his children Jeannette Kew of Phoenix, Arizona and Octavio Kew (Mirta) of San Francisco, California; and by his sisters Kendall Lundberg (Mark) of Clear Lake, Iowa, Karel Murray (Rick) of Oak Grove, Missouri, Kimberly Kew of Charles City, Iowa, and Korinne Kilborn (David) of Mason City, Iowa.

Kevin will be remembered by all as a loving husband and father, for his generous heart, remarkable humor and passion for helping the Chimoza children secure a better future. When words failed, music was his instrument of love, and joy.

Services will be held at The Unitarian Church, 4 Archdale Street Charleston, SC 29401 on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 12:30 pm, Dr. Moffat Zimba of Zambia will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, please give to the ALS Association, Phoenix, AZ, or Roper Hospice, Charleston, SC.
